Volunteer work
Introduction
The voluntary work done by thousands of people yields a huge social benefit, as they help to reduce the negative impact of current situations of poverty, marginality and social exclusion. At "la Caixa" Foundation we work to promote this important solidarity movement.
We give support
Many "la Caixa" employees, those on job release and retired workers and their families want to help others. To help them show their solidarity we have prompted the creation of provincial or local "la Caixa" volunteer associations.
There are currently 42 "la Caixa" volunteer associations and over 3,200 people involved in a host of activities.
Working together
At "la Caixa" Foundation we also promote voluntary work in collaboration with non-profit organisations that, like us, are working to build a society with fewerine qualities. We help these organisations to optimise their human resources, their materials and their management systems. We are involved in 166 projects of social, environmental and cultural organisations, which involve volunteers who work to have a direct influence on emerging problems in our society. We also back innovative initiatives that are not covered by other subsidies.
Every new volunteer counts
All of us can help others, yet very often we are unaware of how to do so. To help those people interested in doing some kind of voluntary work put their solidarity into practice, "la Caixa" Foundation sends their details to social organisations to which we propose starting the voluntary collaboration. People interested in voluntary work can send their details using an online questionnaire on our website and "la Caixa" Foundation puts them in touch with a social organisation in their area.
Another of our action lines is the publication of materials to help the managers of voluntary work from non-profit social organisations improve the management and coordination of their teams, and to encourage volunteer involvement in their social organisations. The Voluntary Work Management Manual and the computer application for managing voluntary work are some of the materials that can be of great assistance.
In 2010, we put 2,399 people in contact with social organisations.
