Introduction
From "la Caixa" Foundation, we offer various meeting spaces for exchanging ideas about what is happening at the time in the scientific community, on scientists’ recent innovations and on their imminent achievements. We also work together with universities, public and private research centres and university hospitals to generate new scientific knowledge.
Opening up research horizons
In our eagerness to fight the most serious illnesses affecting the public, we promote medical research in different fields. We work with the three-fold aim of increasing the effectiveness of the grants we award, giving research centres more security when planning their research, and facilitating the generation of synergies among different centres. Our collaborative work includes the notable association with the IrsiCaixa Foundation, a benchmark institute in the fight against AIDS. We also fund the HIVACAT AIDS vaccine research and development programme. We are likewise involved in the creation of the Hospital Vall d'Hebron Cancer Molecular Therapy Research Unit, an elite cancer research facility.
In collaboration with the Government of Catalonia, we have created the WIDERBarcelona Centre, from which we support the development of endoscopic surgery. In training new talent, in 2010 we also awarded 40 grants for international doctorate courses in biomedicine.
We have invested 14.7 million euros in medical research.

CosmoCaixa offers interactive, enjoyable science and an open door for anyone who is eager to learn and understand and who never stops wondering why things are the way they are. CosmoCaixa Barcelona boasts the Geological Wall and the Amazon Flooded Forest, wich features more than 100 plant and animal species that convince visitors they have been transported from the Mediterranean to the very heart of the tropical jungle.
CosmoCaixa Madrid has the Hall of Matter, a thrilling tour through the laws of physics, the secrets of matter, the story of the evolution of life on earth and of the laws that govern the Universe in which we live.
In addition to its permanent facilities –Bubble Planetarium, digital Planetarium, Click and Flash, Touch, touch! and Explore your five senses– and its open areas, CosmoCaixa offers a scientific and educational programme that includes exhibitions, workshops, conferences, courses and debates involving experts from all over the world.

What is Ecotendencias?
Ecotendencias (Ecotrends) CosmoCaixa is a new space for dissemination, reflection and debate on current and future environmental challenges, promoted by "la Caixa" Welfare Projects. Ecotendencias CosmoCaixa is a space focusing on the latest environmental trends and their social, economic and political implications.
Ecotendencias is a platform that combines face-to-face sessions in a modern and innovative format with a large web site, fruit of a clear option for both Internet and participation.
The site you are visiting aspires to become, in time, a large newspaper library bringing together quality information in a wide variety of formats: news, recommended links and documents, videos and podcasts.
Every year (October-June) a new cycle on a specific theme will be tackled. This will be developed through 3 ecotrends. In the first cycle, in 2011/2012, "sustainable mobility" will be the theme, including the following 3 ecotrends: "The electric car revolution", "Move by flying" and "Moving information".
Each of these eco-trends will be developed over three sessions with different formats and public, which will be held approximately once a month, as follows:
In .tecno, we invite internationally prestigious experts to draw us closer to the future in a clear and dynamic way.
In .idea, we publicise innovative projects, which show us market solutions, and their imaginative and practical uses.
In .tu, you can raise doubts and concern about the most day-to-day areas and their social implications. In the face-to-face session, invited experts will answer you.
