Introduction
At "la Caixa" Foundation we undertake to improve and care for people's health. We also contribute to preventative healthcare and promote medical research so that in the future we shall be able to overcome some of the most serious illnesses that affect us.
Let nothing stop them smiling
Being in hospital is not easy, even less so when the patient is a child. In order to minimise the impact of a stay in a health centre on children and their families, we have created recreational and educational spaces called Hospital CiberCaixa, in the mother and child areas of several Spanish hospitals. These provide children with a room with computer and audiovisual material, a play area and another area for reading. These pleasant, stimulating environments are animated by volunteers and encourage social and emotional development.
In 2010, there were 66 Hospital CiberCaixa.
We care for those who care
Carers of dependant people have to take on situations of great responsibility. At "la Caixa" Foundation we therefore support them with workshops that deal with subjects such as physical support, emotional impact and the social and family environment. We also provide them with a practical two-volume guide (Cuidemos al cuidador – Let's look after the carer - and La persona cuidada – The person cared for) and a permanently staffed telephone helpline, managed by the Red Cross: 900 220 000.
